Ryanair strikes planned for today cancelled but other dates could still go ahead
Ryanair cabin crew strikes in Spain have been called off for Tuesday 8th January.
Ryanair strikes which were planned for today (Tuesday 8th January) have been cancelled at the last minute.
Unions in Spain representing members of the airline’s cabin crew had planned a 24-hour walkout following a dispute over pay and working conditions but called off the industrial action after successful negotiations with the airline.
It would have been the first of three scheduled days of strikes organised by unions USO and Sitcpla.
The other two dates are planned for Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th January, both of which are also scheduled to be 24-hour walkouts.
Currently, these are still expected to go ahead, but it’s worth noting that the unions are still negotiating with the airline so there is a chance that they could be called off too.
The budget carrier had previously said it expected no disruptions to its Tuesday 8th schedule if the walkouts did take place.
The company shared the news on its Twitter page in a statement which read: “Due to the efforts of the Spanish Government minimum services regulator, and the support of our pilots and cabin crew in Spain, we expect to operate a full schedule of flights to/from (and within) Spain on Tuesday 8th Jan next.
“All passengers scheduled to fly should check in online as normal and arrive at their departure airport at least 2 hours prior to their time of scheduled departure.”
The main dispute between the airline and unions seems to have come over the contracts which Ryanair offers its employees; it tends to use Irish-based contracts rather than local Spanish contracts.
