EasyJet is to launch a new service between Edinburgh and Verona.
The year-round service to the setting for Romeo & Juliet will be the airline’s 40th destination from Scotland’s capital. The first flight will depart from Scotland on 7 December, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays on an A320 aircraft.
It will serve skiers heading for the Dolomites this winter but the city is also famous for opera concerts at its amphitheatre, an easy train ride from Venice and close to Lake Garda.
The announcement comes not long after EasyJet reached the 50 million passenger milestone at Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “It’s great to see easyJet continue to grow at Edinburgh Airport by adding another new destination to its already extensive list, something that increases choice and flexibility for passengers.
“We know there’s a desire to travel and take in the sights and culture of other cities across the world and we are always working to build and grow our destinations list. We also look forward to welcoming people from Verona to Scotland and showcasing what our fantastic country has to offer.”
Neil Slaven, easyJet’s UK country director said: “We are really excited to have announced Scotland’s only direct winter connection from Edinburgh to Verona which will commence this December.
“We remain committed to expanding our network from Scotland and this is a particularly exciting addition to our base at Edinburgh. We are confident it will provide a popular addition to easyJet’s network.
“In total easyJet now serves 40 destinations from Edinburgh spanning the UK and Europe and this new route will complement our existing network of leisure and business flights.”
Flights from Edinburgh will leave on Tuesdays at 6.35am, getting to Verona at 10.05am, and Saturdays at 5.25pm, arriving at 8.55pm. Return flights on Tuesdays will leave Verona at 10.35am, arriving at 12.05am, and Saturdays at 9.25pm, touching down at 11pm.
